The largest regional scientific event with the support of NIS

27.04.2023.

Under the slogan “New Age”, the 16th Science Festival will be held from 4 to 6 May at the Belgrade Fair. This largest scientific event in Southeast Europe has been held with the support of NIS for more than ten years.

This year’s Science Festival will host more than 800 participants from Serbia and abroad, who will present more than 170 scientific programmes. The theme of the festival is a new age that has rapidly come to us due to the pandemic and that indicates the changes that have occurred and that have affected the perception of the world around us, and most of all the perception of science and scientific achievements.

The programme of the festival was presented at the Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry.

Ana Petrović, the director of the Science Festival, expressed her satisfaction with the return of the festival to its original format: “This is a great test, both for us organizers and for the participants. We’ll be back after almost three years of hiatus. The message to parents is to bring children to the smartest place in town, because who knows what kind of talent they discover thanks to a direct encounter with science. The message for educators is that in one place, children will see and learn more than in classes, and this will make it easier for them to continue teaching. The message for children and the young is: come, we promise a lot of fun!”

“Energy that drives” is the name of the installation by which NIS is presented at the Science Festival in Hall 3 of the Belgrade Fair. The specially created installation will show the oil industry as an integral part of the new era, guide visitors through the virtual reality of oil exploration and production, and present the way in which crude oil is transformed into an energy source. Visitors to the installation will also be able to get acquainted with innovative technologies, such as drones, which are used in the oil industry today.

“NIS has been with the Science Festival for more than ten years. We are not only a sponsor of the festival, but also a long-time friend and strategic partner of this most important scientific event in our country. As a company that focuses its socially responsible business on the professional development of the young and their education and the use of modern technologies and innovations, the goal of NIS is to contribute to the popularization of science among young people. Our socially responsible activities are implemented under the slogan “Future in Action”, because investing in science and in young people is an investment in the future,” said Stefan Despotović, the Director of the NIS Centre for Public Relations.

In the Interactive Installations Zone, domestic scientific and educational institutions will be presented. This programme segment is intended for audiences of all ages, especially those who want to experience scientific achievements first-hand. The Science Fiction Stage brings an attractive performance by local scientists and guests from France, Sweden, Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia. In the Experteenagers zone, young scientists and ambassadors of science from Serbia will present their achievements and knowledge acquired during school and extracurricular activities through a series of scientific challenges in which they will predominantly cover topics in ecology, geography, astrophysics, and chemistry. The Little Zone is dedicated to children aged five to eleven and will include nine settings from Serbia, Austria, and Sweden – from programming for the youngest to scientific cuisine and simple experiments in physics and chemistry.
