NIS and SOS Dečija sela Srbija support youth together

23.12.2024

NIS in cooperation with the charity foundation for children without parental care “SOS Decija sela Srbija” and its division “Jaki mladi” held career guidance sessions for young people of this organization and young people from vulnerable social groups in order to prepare them for entering the labour market and in finding their first jobs. The company has already participated in such sessions in various Serbian towns. This year they were held in Krusevac and Požega.

Forty-two teenagers between 17 and 19 attended the event. The session covered various topics such as job search, resume writing, preparation for an interview, presentation of personal knowledge and skills, as well as important issues of labour law and employer responsibilities. Katarina Timotijević and Luka Milošević, senior employer brand development specialists from NIS, moderated the seminar.

“Any beginning is hard, so it is important to support young people in choosing a profession and finding their first job. It is very pleasant to see how they are interested in the experience and advice of those who have done what they are about to do, and how they are ready to work on themselves and develop,” says Katarina Timotijević.

Luka Milošević comments that many issues remain relevant for each generation of young people: where and how to look for a job, how to write a resume, how to behave at an interview.

“At the end of the day, we were all rookies once, so I’m glad to be able to help and answer at least some of these questions,” says Luka.

Leopold Rolinger, manager of the Jaki mladi Centre at the SOS Decija sela Srbija Foundation, notes that the centre is proud of its cooperation with NIS and is grateful to the company for its attention to the needs of young people from socially vulnerable groups who are entering the labour market.

“During career guidance sessions, NIS specialists share their knowledge and experience and help young people get to know the business environment and culture. Such cooperation is an excellent example of how business can contribute to the development of young people and help them on their way to independence. As part of our cooperation with NIS, we work not only with the young people in Belgrade, but also in Požega and Kruševac. In these towns, we are supported by the social organisation Forca and the Educational Centre Kruševac. I hope that this work will continue next year and that similar events for young people will be organised with partner organisations in Sobmor, Kragujevac and Zajecar,” commented Leopold Rolinger.

Mina and Aleksandra from Kruševac also shared their impressions of the seminar:

“A great seminar! The job interview simulation was very useful. We received feedback, advice on what to improve and what to work on. I already had a resume, and at the seminar I learned how to adjust and improve it,” says Mina. Aleksandra adds that she learned a lot about job search, and that it is important that the experts represent a large company, so that the participants received specific practical recommendations.

In addition to sponsorship, NIS has been helping the SOS Dečija sela Srbija Foundation for many years by recruiting employees from among the young people the foundation cares for.
