The official opening of the 22nd International Mini Basketball Festival “Rajko Žižić” was held in Hall 3 of the Belgrade Fair. The festival that gathers the young hopes of our basketball lasts from June 7 to 9, organized by the “Mini Basketball Serbia” Association at the Basketball Federation of Serbia. The general sponsor of the event for more than a decade has been the NIS company.
The official opening was attended by Zlatko Bolić, Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Serbia, Božidar Maljković, President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Ivan Dmitriev, Director of the HSE Function at NIS, Rade Georgievski, President of the “Mini Basketball Serbia” Association, as well as other guests and basketball fans.
“I am sure that today we are watching not only great talents, but also future champions, both of Serbia and of the world. For NIS, this is an exceptional opportunity to show how much we invest in the development of children and sports. Today, we have the opportunity to see, in addition to talent, how character is created and how the principles of fair play are implemented in games and sports, and these are all the values we support,” said Ivan Dmitriev, director of the HSE function at NIS.
Zlatko Bolić, Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Serbia, emphasized that all children are winners, because they are there to play and socialize, and Božidar Maljković, President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, emphasized the importance of this tournament in the sport he has been involved in all his life and congratulated to the NIS company for demonstrated social responsibility.
Rade Georgievski, president of the “Mini Basketball Serbia” Association, stated that this year is special, because it is also an Olympic year, and then he thanked NIS as the general sponsor for continuous support for more than a decade.
122 teams and almost 2,500 children from Serbia and the region are participating in the festival, who will play more than 100 games in the three days of the tournament. The competition is held on six courts in three categories – 2014, 2015 and 2016 years. In addition to the main courts where the games are played, there is also a court with artificial grass, on which there is a telescope basket and 3 on 3 mini basketball is played.
In a great atmosphere of socializing, cheering and making new friends, during the festive opening of the festival, cups were presented to each team, and medals were distributed to all participants of the event, which awarded each of them for team spirit and fair play.
During the festival, a seminar for coaches called “From minibasket to basketball” was organized, as well as lectures for the age categories of working with the youngest..
