Solar Power Plant in Pančevo Oil Refinery

12.02.2025

On the rooftops of facilities in the Pančevo Oil Refinery, a solar farm of a total power of 610 kWp and a connection capacity of 550 kW was constructed and put into operation. The expected annual output of this power plant is 656 MWh.

The solar farm consists of 1053 photovoltaic panels, with a power of 580 Wp each, and 13 inverters, with a total power of 500 kW. The generated electricity will be used for the purposes of the Pančevo Oil Refinery.

The solar power plant construction project in Pančevo Oil Refinery was launched in April 2024 and the power plant was constructed on the rooftops of five facilities within the refining complex of NIS:

“The installation of solar panels in an industry setting is a complex technical challenge and a step forward in greening the refinery’s production. The most advanced technologies have been used for production optimisation and monitoring and, above all, for achieving the highest level of safety at work. The project is part of a wider company strategy, aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, coming as a result of NIS’ strategic orientation towards diversification of its activities for switching to green energy. The investment totals over RSD 38 million, and the expected annual reduction in hydrocarbon emissions is around 700 tons”, said Nenad Pavlović from NIS.

The Pančevo Oil Refinery is among the most contemporary and greenest ones in this part of Europe, with this project helping it stay on top when it comes to the application of green technologies. This project is one of a number of steps that NIS has taken for the development of renewable energy sources; last year only, solar power plants were started up on the Office Building in Novi Sad, fuel depot, and Jazak Drinking Water Factory, as well as at 45 petrol stations across Serbia. NIS will continue implementing projects in the field of solar technologies and other types of green energy.
