New step in the modernization of the Pančevo Oil Refinery
We have taken a new step in the modernization of the Pančevo Oil Refinery. After the completion of the Bottom of the Barrel Project, worth more than EUR 300 million, our refinery is one of the most modern and “greenest” refineries in the region. By introducing modern technologies into the oil sector of Serbia, we have shown that for us, innovation is not only a corporate value on paper, but also a fundamental practice on which we base the further development of our company and create additional values for consumers.

By implementing this project, we also confirm our concern for the community in which we operate, because the commissioning of the Delayed Coking Unit also brings numerous environmental benefits. These primarily include the cessation of the production of high-sulphur fuel oil and the reduction of emissions of gases and particulate matter into the air. In this way, the environmental picture will be improved not only of Pančevo, but also of the entire Serbia.
– Ceasing the production of fuel oil with a high sulfur content
– Reduction in SO2 emissions by 98.8%
– 2% lower emissions of particulate matter
– Reduction in NO2 emissions by 9.8%
– Improving the energy efficiency of the Pančevo Refinery
– construction site area: 64,386.63 m2
– average number of workers per day: 1,100
– More than 7 million man-hours
– 2 reactors – height: 30 meters, weight: over 200 tonnes
– 2 coke silos with the capacity of 1,750 m3
The construction of the new complex was a true construction challenge in which over 7 million working hours were invested. On average, 1,100 people worked on the project every day, and more than 80% of the employees were local contractors.
The Delayed Coking Unit enables us to increase the output of the highest quality fuels – diesel, gasoline and liquid petroleum gas. The domestic production of petroleum coke, which we used to import, has also started. Expanding the product range at the Refinery improves Serbia’s energy stability.
The completion of this project does not mean the end of the modernization of the oil refining complex in Pančevo. In collaboration with the leading shareholders of NIS, the Russian company Gazprom Neft and the Republic of Serbia, we will continue to invest in our Refinery and increase its competitive advantage in the very demanding market of Southeast Europe. In this way, we continue to jointly improve our country’s energy sector and build the future at work.
